EMISSIONS WORLDWIDE: DEUTZ IS READY

Emission guidelines are, so to speak, the pacesetter in engine development. In Europe, EU Stage V currently applies the strictest rules for the off-highway area. In order to meet this requirement, mobile work machines such as excavators, tractors or forklifts in the EU require highly developed drive systems with the latest exhaust gas aftertreatment. In particular, the use of so-called SCR systems and diesel particle filters (DPF) requires in-depth know-how in terms of drive and the respective application.

The Cologne-based company was the first manufacturer worldwide to meet EU Stage V. This means that DEUTZ is already equipped for progressive emissions regulations in international markets. In South Korea or Japan, for example, emissions legislation should be aligned with EU Stage V. In India, Stage V will be introduced on April 1, 2024 and in China the "China IV Non-Road Emission Legislation" will be introduced. In particular, the nitrogen oxide and particle mass limit values are significantly reduced. The introduction of an additional limit for the number of particles also requires the use of a diesel particle filter.

The reliable operation of the DPF in the overall system requires sound integration expertise and an understanding of the respective application. Depending on the device in which the motor is used, there are completely different load profiles. For example, a tractor is typically driven at high full load, which is relatively uncritical for DPF use, since the exhaust gas temperature is high enough to enable the filter to be regenerated continuously. In contrast, the load profile of a forklift, for example, is far more demanding. This is often only operated at low speed in shorter intervals or with high idle shares. As a result, the exhaust gas temperature usually remains below 250 ° C, which is why the soot particles collected in the DPF do not burn. To solve this problem, intelligent "heat management" is required. DEUTZ has therefore developed a so-called “heat mode” to increase the exhaust gas temperature in a targeted manner, which ensures safe machine operation. DEUTZ already has extensive experience in series production in the field of exhaust gas aftertreatment - this is what DEUTZ customers worldwide benefit from when introducing new technologies.
